General Informationen

K-UTEC AG Salt Technologies has as its main focus long term developments which have become a tradition to the economic benefit of the town of Sondershausen. Potash salt has been mined and processed here since 1895 and the Brügmann Shaft was the first seam in the South Harz area to be discovered and developed. More than 10 additional shafts developed in the surrounding area prior to 1913. Potash mining has became one of the most important economic factors in the region.

Alongside the "Glückauf" potash mine in Sondershausen, the scientific and technological centre of the East German potash industry began to develop here from 1955. Out of the "Central Research Centre for the Potash Industry" arose the "Potash Research Institute" in 1964.

The "Potash Research Institute" was integrated into the management of combination KALI and established itself as the administration centre of the entire East German potash industry in Sondershausen in 1970. With decades of practical research and method development, deposit exploration and investigation of raw materials, an extensive base of knowledge and experience could be accumulated.
Our company emerged in February 1992 as the only branch of the former Potash Research Institute to be redeveloped and integrated into the Central German potash industry. An extensive potential for knowledge through practically orientated research and method development, exploration of deposits and the examination of raw
materials arose.

The Engineering and Research Institute was established at this time allowing for a combined effort in meeting the needs of an ever changing economy with environmental sustainability in mind.
For traditional reasons our main focus and fields of activity are as follows:

  • An increased investment for: reutalization, after care, redevelopment and land fill technology,
  • the use of exploration practice and experience in non-salty deposits, building techniques and old waste analysis,
  • Increased investment in environmental tasks involving registration, surveillance, renovation and recultivation of redundant mines,
  • the use and further development of chemical-physics outside the field of potash production,
  • the development of analysis in accordance with current project profiles and the creation of a modern environmental laboratory.

Continuous care and consideration for the further development of knowledge and expertise within the potash and salt industry with due consideration for the environment is represented by our company name which has been in existence for over fourteen years.

Besides the coming into being, asserting and development of experiences of the traditional knowl-edge of the potash and salt industrie are kept in mind, which is also obvious in the Name of our restructured company K-UTEC AG Salt Technologies in 2008. In the course of this development our specialists of the beginning have been supported by increase of young and well skilled work-force. The number of employees rose to about 65.
