Deactivation of Mercury Fulminate Contained Explosives

A method for deactivation of explosives, which contain quicksilver fulminate, was developed by order of Muni Berka GmbH Dietersdorf (Germany). Contrary to the mostly used combustion method a fluid-chemical treatment was investigated, which besides the pyrotechnical deactivation guaranties the immobilisation of this hazardous material. A first application is foreseen for an old inventory ammunition.
